Goulburn Chinese Restaurant

I absolutely love the eggplant dish. It's crispy and sweet and unique. Great vegetarian option, I don't even normally like eggplant! My partner got the Singapore noodles and wasn't a fan. Pretty average Chinese menu for the rest of it.

This restaurant is fantastic. Our group had a Banquet meal, and not one complaint was forthcoming from anyone. They all had a wonderful experience.

We visited mid-week for lunch whilst travelling through. We remained the only patrons the entire time we were there. Looks like they have a take-away area at the front, so maybe that is busier. The outside is a bit shabby & inside is basic. Certainly not a romantic, swish restaurant for a special meal. Its basic, country Chinese food. Nothing outstanding. A reasonable choice on the menu, and the fact they had a lunch special was good, because I would have been angry to pay full price for our meals. Service was fine, although our meals came out at different times- odd considering we were the only ones there! The women was friendly, but balked when I asked for chop sticks. I could hear her foraging around out back & took sometime to find any!!! I assume they arent used often as there were only folks & spoons on the tables! There were 2 flies buzzing around us, which the lady was fully aware of, yet didnt appologise or try to deal with them. The food itself was mediocre. My chilli chicken was bland & my friends chicken curry came with a gloopy, brown sauce. Both meals were packed with onion & little other veg. Not somewhere I'd run back to.

Goulburn Chinese Restaurant is a lot larger than you'd initially think, and a little confusing with the entry counter empty with a polystyrene sign directing you to the counter out the back. There are a few aluminium planes on the front counter, cleverly made from old soft drink cans, and this sets the scene for what you know is going to be traditional Aussie Chinese food, and in this respect, the menu doesn't disappoint. Just don't expect actual Chinese food, or anything inspired by modern Asian cooking. Service was very friendly and prompt and we ordered San Choy Bow for the entree - fresh and tasty. The chicken and sweet corn soup was just as you'd expect, with nice chopped shallots as a garnish. For mains we ordered classic chicken with cashews and sweet and sour pork, and 'special fried rice' for the carbs. All were fine, but nothing spectacular. Overall the food was tasty and fresh, the restaurant was clean, spacious and the service was friendly. Goulburn Chinese is a good place for a family meal, but perhaps not for a VIP event like an anniversary. Good country town fare.
