Bidrage med feedbackNow that Staves has their own beers on tap, this is an excellent venue. With a cosy bar and a comfortable garden area it's the perfect spot for a quiet drink with friends. They even have occassional performers. What's not to like!
Dropped into Staves when in the area for business. Found out they had just started serving their own beer on tap. The IPA was a nice, hoppy beer that I enjoyed. The Stout was even better Very quiet when I was there. But a business with ideas and friendly brewer willing to chat. If in the area, drop in and try the beers.
Popped in quickly on way to eat. Tried a couple of beers that were delicious, an American IPA and an oatmeal stout. Friendly bar man, comfortable seating outside in beer garden. Apparently they will be brewing there soon, and putting more beers on.
Whilst the brewing ramps up, the bar has a great selection of local beers that rotate on a regular basis, there are wines and spirits for non beer drinkers. The space is fantastic, a converted workshop and it's not "themed up" its just a really nicely done bar, a room with cathedral ceilings upstairs that is used by local artists for music, magic and whatever happens to be going on. There's a beer garden outside with original German beer hall tables and benches. Steve, the owner is very friendly and always willing to chat and help you explore the beers. It's a bit hidden, but easy to get to being right off Bay Street or Glebe Point road down Grose St. Seems to get a real mix of locals and people coming for the beer, so the demographic is diverse.
Very exciting finding a joint like Staves out the back of Broadway Shopping Centre. To think, an old waste of space converted to produce a local drop by local fellas. All the equipment is out in its rusting rustic glory. But something is missing.A bunch of decent local beers on tap, but possibly too many interstate beers at last look. It ain't necessary, and goes against the ethos of keeping it local. But great music! Really, there is live music, and when it ain't live, it's what you want to hear. Tunes that suit the venue. Doesn't feel too forced. Feels like a welcome addition. At present Staves is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Nice bloke behind the bar. But a brewery that doesn't brew? A misnomer a best. I brew at home, and don't call it a brewery.
