Blackbird Cafe - Valparaiso

This café offers the best lattes, delicious homemade vegan soup, and stays open until 10pm, making it the coffee shop with the latest hours in town. It is a great spot for vegan night owls, offering soy, almond, and oat milk options. They always have a vegan soup on the menu board, which is consistently delicious. Their salads are excellent, especially the Goddess Salad if it is available as a special. The vegan peanut butter cookie is also tasty. They offer vegan morning glory muffins daily, which are very filling. The café also serves a vegan BLT, veggie sandwich, and veggie burger. While the food is decent, it is not gourmet quality. Customers mainly come for the coffee and ambiance, but there are food options available for those who are hungry. Vegetarians will appreciate the variety of homemade pies, baked goods (sometimes vegan), smoothies, quiches, and egg and cheese items. In the summer, there is outdoor seating available, and the walls are adorned with artwork from local artists.

There was only one vegan entree on the menu (a meatless blt) but that’s ok because I would eat this sandwich all the time. Although if they did add more vegan options to the menu it would be really exciting based on how good the sandwich was.

We come here almost daily. We love the food and the gals that wait on us but today there was a young woman who was Def having issues. She was so rude and totally unfriendly. Very unpleasant, and had no business being there she was someone I never seen before, red hair, . I never have problems there, this was so unusual. You could not hear her speak and she seemed so confused and was not nice. I hope to never have that experience there again. Uptown Cafe ..open quick!

Was there this morning. Incredibly rude staff. No response to a good morning or thank you. Just side eye and ignored any pleasantries given. Both the guy who brought us food and girl taking order

Essentially a Valparaiso cultural icon at this point. I think I come here every time I'm back in town, and I never have any complaints. Breakfast sandwiches, pastries, and coffee it's just so sure and scrumptious, truly a blessing to make it here. I hope this place outlasts all of us. If you're looking to run into old Valpo friends or meet up with a townie, there's a good chance you'll just see them here anyways. It's one of the few places I am both regularly refreshed by and deeply nostalgic for they make it easy to support local businesses.
