AUBERGE DU PONT D'ARC

After swimming at the gorge we decided to eat here. At first we were not so sure because you'd expect a "tourist trap". Nothing of the kind. My eldest daughter has a severe food allergy, the waiter checked with the cook and we were questioned again, and thereafter told what we could order. They also told us that the pans and utensils would be clean. The waiter was very friendly and calm. I love it when the staff doesn't give you a stressed impression. They forgot to remove the plaque with "weekend special" menu on it, but it was not a problem if I wanted that. The food was tasty. Everybody enjoyed dinner. The desserts were already pre-made and waited for consumption in the fridge.All-in-all, beautiful view, relaxed dinner. Enjoyed it thoroughly.

We were not there at the height of summer but I imagine if you were this could possibly hugely affect the 'experience' i.e. a large restaurant, very touristic location and staff either up to their eyeballs (or worn out by a long season)....but for us, and our party of 40, it was excellent. The food was very good and the service likewise. Service prompt etc. Nothing was a problem and the children exceedingly well catered for.Nice views/backdrop.

We stopped in for lunch, asked for a table and we're promptly shown one. It had just been cleared so no cutlery, glassware etc. This wasn't a problem but it became apparent that the staff were either run off their feet or just couldn't be bothered making an effort to sort the table out. About 20 mins later a surly waiter appeared with the most disgusting grey, smelly cloth to wipe down our table; that should've been another sign for us to leave but I was thinking with my stomach and not my head. Menus were finally produced and then we had a long wait to order. We ordered lamb chops which were for the most part raw and incredibly fatty and steak of which around half was inedible because of gristle and fat. Just not a good standard of food at all.I would avoid this place at all costs; spend your money elsewhere or go to the supermarket and buy the stuff needed for a picnic and sit by the river.

Felt so sorry for half of the staff, but unfortenately the dont stand a chance. I have not seen such a disorganized and bad managed restaurant in a long time. We were welcomed at the table, given menu's and then left alone for 15 min. before we could order. Our drinks came fast but for our meals we had to wait a long time. When the food finally arrived, only the order of my dinner companion was brought. Apprently some ingrediënts were not available for my dish so they asked if it was Ok to replace them with other ingrediënts. Of course this was no problem, but usually you correct this before the food is served. Since the waitress guarenteed us it would only take 5 minutes, we did not complain. Instead it took more then 20 minutes before my food arrived and by this time my dinner companion was ofcourse almost finished with his meal because it got cold waiting for my food. Because of the delays when my food was brought out we asked for the bill immediately. After finishing my meal and waiting for another 5 minutes, we still had no bill. After asking for it 2 more times, standing up and clearly showing we where about to leave, it finally arrived. On a side note, the table next to us were finished with their meals when we arrived, and were still sitting at the table with their empty plates when we left.The half of the staff is very friendly, and tries real hard, but because the other half is so incompetent they don't stand a chance. They don't have a clear working structure which results in chaos on the dining floor. The Owner/Manager just stands around and doesn't lift a finger to help his clearly overwhelmed staff. Hopefully this was just a bad day for them because the food was actualiteit Ok for the price, but they got a lot to improve on communication between the staff and service.
