Kudos to the crews. 15yrs shopping here and they've always been helpful and friendly
Wonderful local market with a great variety of hard-to-find items.
I assumed there was some state regulation requiring food packaging to indicate when the chicken was cooked and how long it had been under the heat lamp, like Costco does. Their staff can even tell you specifics if you ask. When I went to the customer service desk to inquire about how long the chicken had been out, the representative spoke to me in a condescending tone, saying it was "fine" and hadn't been out long. But it didn't seem fine to me. Although the outside of the chickens felt hot, the sides were cold to the touch, which suggested they had been sitting under the heat lamp longer than they should. I didn't appreciate being talked down to or having my concerns brushed off without a real answer. It made me wonder if they didn’t even know how long the chicken had been out themselves, which is even more concerning. They should understand the seriousness of serving potentially unsafe food; not only adults but also children might be eating that chicken. In a perfect world, we could trace food-related illnesses back to their source, holding the responsible parties accountable. I’m not claiming that a child was hospitalized because of Lee's chicken on that particular day, but such negligence can lead to serious health risks. As I visit various grocery stores in the valley, I've noticed that only a couple consistently adhere to food safety regulations. Sad to say, Lee's in Smithfield has become the worst on my list. Not only do the deli workers seem rude and ignore customers for extended periods, but the overall customer service is lacking, and the chicken likely sits under the heat lamp for far too long, posing a health risk. Lee's ranks at the very bottom for other reasons too: their bathrooms are consistently filthy, the floors need serious cleaning, and their shopping carts are often in disrepair. I grew up in a nicer neighborhood in Davis County, but I’ve visited stores in Layton and Roy, and I bet you can imagine the quality there. Smithfield is a wonderful town, but unfortunately, the quality of its grocery store does not reflect that.
Excellent service and a wide variety of options, especially impressive fresh produce!
