Gordon Hotel - Portland

For anyone who enjoys hotel meals, you can't go past the Gordon. You can have a full meal at reasonable prices or a seniors meal for just $10.00. The dining area is large, bright and airy with high ceilings and comfortable seating. The meals are well presented and served hot.

We dropped in here on our home to our accommodation for a quick dinner on a Thursday night and we lucked out with Parmi and pot night which I took advantage of. There was a good selection of Chicken Parmigianas ranging from the original to nacho to one called 'The Pom'. I decided to try 'The Pom' which had mashed potato, bacon, gravy and cheese on a good sized chicken fillet. It was well cooked and to my surprise was very tasty indeed and at $18 with the pot of beer is excellent value for money. My wife had the chicken crepe and that was very good as well. The crepe came in a side bowl and was very flavoursome and a decent size. Bothe meal came with chips and salad or wedges, we chose salad. The chips were really chunky and well cooked and the salad was good and dressed in the best tasting vinegarette I've had at a pub. Both meals were served up in under 10 minutes of being ordered and service was quick and friendly. Seriously will come back again and try other items on the menu.

I should stress at the outset that this review and rating is as a pub only and not a reflection of the food as we didn’t eat there.The bar is like many bars in Australian hotels - pretty basic with high stools, gaming machines etc. and not designed to be able to sit in comfort for a quiet chat and drink. The main bar and restaurant is brightly lit and lined with plastic tables and chairs not unlike a club. It looked a bit like a McDonalds with a carpet and bar.They had a good and reasonably priced menu, and it was well patronised by local people eating, but because it lacked any restaurant atmosphere we only had a drink before moving along to somewhere more atmospheric to eat.

We went for a quick meal before attending a performance. Told the staff and our meal was served quickly. It was a huge meal in fact even stumped my husband.

Nice staff and pretty good homestyle meals which arrived quickly. Just the decor in the lounge that lets the place down. Best oysters I've had for a long time though!
