Bidrage med feedbackMaybe it was only the day, but unfortunately our experience was not pleasant there. we wanted 2 cappuccinos, 1 latte and 1 hot chocolate, but we were told that we did not cappuccinos (technical ground), so had 3 latte and 1 hot chocolate. the hot chocolate was cold, and the latte was tested as if they were made with instant coffee and made extremely strong. we didn't even finish all drinks.
Meal times in this facility was astonishing earlier. that is no longer the case. completely overpriced for quality and some bland meal times. this restaurant now takes definitiw shortcuts when preparing meals. unfortunately it was disappointing this time. other patrons were also served free rolls and pfeffer.
Who understands how the service industry works will get frustrated eating here.
Hoi Polloi is a quirky little restaurant in the main street in Parys. The decor inside will keep you entertained as there are so many little bits of memorabilia hanging from the walls and ceiling. The tables are ornately decorated with stunning crockery and glassware, but also strange objects. Unfortunately I found the busy tables a bit of an annoyance as we had a giant glass dome blocking us from chatting to people on the other side of the table. The service is slow. We had to keep flagging down our waitress when we wanted something, and the drinks and food took ages to get to us (and the restaurant wasn’t overly busy). When the food arrived some of the dishes were lukewarm instead of hot, so had obviously been sitting at the kitchen for a long while. The disappointment mainly comes from the food. It is all presented beautifully, but unfortunately lacked substance and flavour. The Lamb Shank was perfectly cooked and tender, but quite bland. It comes wrapped around a roti which was dry and chewy. They smear a bit of green sauce inside but this doesn’t add much to the flavour and isn’t nearly enough to make the roti more enjoyable. The Gnocchi was the best dish we tried. A rich, creamy sauce and soft, pillowy gnocchi. The Truffle Risotto was nice but there was no sign of truffle being used in the dish, making it quite plain. The Abalone starter was a few tiny slivers of abalone hidden in a mound of risotto. You can barely get a taste of the abalone. They also put the accompaniments of guacamole on the far corner of the plate, rather as a decoration than part of the meal. Seemed quite silly to add that. The cocktails were just overly sweet. The ones we had were packed with either sorbet, marmalade or syrup. They were pretty to look at but hard to drink.
Excellent unexpected great quality food Well done and thank you
