Vip Sushi Hibachi - Oconomowoc

I visited this restaurant on Sunday after church, and it was quite empty, with only a couple of other couples dining there. We've tried many sushi places in southeast Wisconsin, and so far, this one has been our favorite. We ordered some simple rolls along with the deep-fried Oconomowoc roll, and everything was delicious. You can definitely tell they use much fresher ingredients compared to their competitors. I highly recommend this place for a romantic evening or even for lunch during the workweek. Sushi is what they do best!

To start, out of three appetizers we ordered, only two were served initially. We had to ask for the third one, which finally arrived about 20 minutes later. The young waitress, who seemed to be no older than 16, was left to manage the entire dining area. After an hour and a half wait for our main courses, one dish finally came out, but we had to wait another ten minutes for the second one. Honestly, it was just slightly better than supermarket sushi, but at more than double the price. We even had to ask for the soup and salad twice, which were served only after the second main dish was delivered. We understand that takeout has been their primary focus over the past couple of years and that they just recently reopened their dining area, but the experience felt quite frustrating. It was as if we were being overlooked while they prioritized call-in orders. We left feeling like we had wasted $130; it was the worst money we ever spent. We will not be returning. First time visiting VIP and could not have been happier! The service was prompt (even though they were busy), our server was attentive and courteous, and the food was AMAZING. Best sushi around, and the filet mignon was out of this world good. We have a new favorite restaurant in town!

The sushi was quite good, but I had a disappointing experience with my pickup order. I was told it would be ready at 6:30 PM and instructed to wait in my car for a text notification. I arrived at 6:20 PM and stayed put, but didn't receive any text. At 6:40 PM, I decided to go inside and found my order sitting on the counter, ready since 6:20 PM. When I asked why they hadn't texted me as promised, they simply said they were too busy. However, I noticed they weren’t that busy at all. To make matters worse, the soup and other items were cold. If you commit to doing something, like sending a text, it’s important to follow through. Overall, this experience was quite frustrating.

Great sushi and good service! Nice place to sit down and the prices are really reasonable. The crab Rangoon has to be the best I?ve had.
