Smaller restaurant in downtown NOTL just off Queen Street. Open kitchen-style dining (to watch the food prep action ) and they also have a patio for warm weather seating.Wine list prices (as you would expect) are steep ; a decent glass of wine (eg their Stratus Cab ) will run you about 20 bucks. Another selection by the glass ( California I think ) was $34. Yikes. They feature Niagara wines. There are also 3oz glasses of wine available (which is a pet peeve of mine ) for 6oz prices.Gnocchi appetizer was excellent. However I felt the halibut was dry & overcooked and the duck was not as tender as I would have expected. The entrees are small and priced in the $36-$38 range.I know it's not Olive Garden, but they don't offer any bread and I was hungry later in night.In summary, their food failed to meet expectations, given the price point. Wine selections are of good quality but bring your American Express card.
As local residents we've visited Treadwell often but our last visit convinced us that this would be our last time. The head chef was continually barking out food orders to the other chefs in such a loud voice it totally disturbed our meal. We mentioned this both our waiter who was excellent and also to the sommelier who spoke to the chef about toning down his yelling out the orders for food. It almost felt he yelled them out louder. Treadwell is a excellent restaurant with inventive high quality food offerings at relatively high prices but it is not worth having your meal disturbed by a chef who has no regard for the wishes of his guests. We will certainly not be back as there are many other fine restaurants in Niagara On The Lake with excellent food, beautiful settings and pleasant atmospheres.
We went to this restaurant after reading many fantastic reviews.We ordered three appetizers to try out. The roasted red snapper soup tasted like creamy tomato soup with no FISH flavours. Scallop was beautifully done but the corn and sunflower seeds were oversalted. Tomato and peach salad was very good.As for the main dish, extremely disappointed with the deep fried whitefish. The batter around the fish was over coated and over cooked. Very greasy. The fish had very little taste.The best dish is the Bavette steak. It was very well marinated, cooked to perfection, the side deepfried potato was also greasy.We were disappointed over the quality of the food based on the total cost of the meal, over CAD110.
We met the owner in the morning when we walked by to find out if we could get a last minute reservation, she was delightful and said for us to come back and talk to another persons , which we did, reservation accepted. We dinned at the bar over looking all the action in the kitchen. The meal was good, my spouse had duck and said it was excellent, mine dish was good but not at outstanding. The service is good, prices are not cheap. But over all I would give it a 8 out of 10.
