Zum Adler - NeuAnspach

Als Mitglied im Förderkreis Hessenpark und aus der Nachbarstadt Usingen sind wir öfters im Hessenpark. Dazu gehört auch oft die Einkehr in den Adler.Das Essen passt zum Ambiente und schmeckt. Ein schöner Bier- Apfelweingarten rundet das Lokal ab.

Aller is our usual favourite whenever out at Hessenpark. This time we took a friend from Central America - she might have enjoyed a meal without even the slightest hints of pepper or salt, let alone anything more fancy.We had an early lunch outside, in front of the restaurant and shortly after we set down a bus load arrived. Despite this, service was prompt and both male and female waiters were kind, fast, and professional. We ordered a pitcher of "Apfelwein" and a bottle of water with three glasses which were promptly brought to our table and asked how we wanted to share. We said "leave it to us" and so it was. As even our Centralamerican friend liked the taste (not the normal bitter stuff but nicely fresh, very much drinkable "pure") the ladies had it pure and the driver watered it down with Gerolsteiner :-) We chose to share a portion of "Handkäse" between the three of us for starters and they kindly brought it with three slices of bread, sufficient butter (as one of us did not have any) and three "hands" of Munster type of cheese with onions, in a mild sauce no some cress on top. Missed the cumin and cheese was not fully ripe, but delicious nevertheless. For mains we had the "venison/wild boar" cut meat with Semmelknödel which was delicious in its dark mushrooms sauce and green beans (huge portion), Frankfurter Grüne Soße with boiled potatoes - a bit strangely served on a bed of lettuces with cut eggs and the green sauce in a glass (just large enough to be too much for a tiny Centralamerican lady, I would haven't hungry most likely) and a cabbage tarte with boiled potatoes also in a pan (like the first dish) - huge dish but no taste.Service was fast, efficient, friendly (we spoke a while with the Turkish lady) and prices ok for EUR 60 all in, but next time we shall ask more details about preparation before ordering. Otherwise it would have been 5 stars.

Let's get this out of the way first - if you don't like solid, down-to-earth country cooking, then go elsewhere.However, we do and were not disappointed. A first look at the menu before our visit suggested a very different type of restaurant to that we knew from the towns and cities and from us in Swabia. But hey, this is Hessen and so we got Hessen cooking.The portions are BIG - none of us were able to finish. My Wildhackbraten was well seasoned and very tasty, the dumplings also seemingly homemade. The idea it seems is to give one a taste of real Hessen country cooking (to fit in with the ethos of the museum) and we also downed a Bembel of cider, which was great (our 4 y.o. also glugged down his local apple juice). So, if you're looking for delicate nuances, fine wines or fancy presentation, this really won't satisfy you. A couple at the next table (who my wife said were from Eastern Europe judging by their conversation) had not reckoned with a stolid Bauernschmaus and wanted to change their order. The waitress patiently explained what it was and how it was made and then also changed the order without grumpiness. Now THAT is service. Our service was prompt and friendly, so no complaints there either.The building was an old barn but really suits well as a Wirthaus and that, coupled with the no-nonsense food, beer, cider etc made for a superb lunch in a great setting.

In nostalgischem Ambiente sehr gut gespeist. Liebevoll hergerichtet. Der Service war zuvorkommend und aufmerksam.

Nach einem ausgiebigen Rundgang durch den Hessenpark ließen wir uns hier zum Kaffeetrinken nieder. Der Raum war gut besetzt, aber mit Hilfe der freundlichen Bedienung fanden wir auch zu fünft noch einen passenden Tisch.Kuchen ist nicht gerade der Schwerpunkt des Lokals, und so standen auch nur zwei Sorten (Apfelkuchen und Käsekuchen mit Aprikose) zur Auswahl. Die waren aber beide frisch und gut, und auch Sonderwünsche bezüglich des Kaffees wurden prompt erfüllt. Der Service war insgesamt in Ordnung, aber zeitweise nicht sehr aufmerksam. Die Preise waren für diesen exponierten Standort o.k.
