Bidrage med feedbackWe ate at Pop Pops 3 years ago at a different location and it was delicious. Was a little nervous to try this one because of the latest reviews, but decided to anyway. So glad we did! Still the best BBQ around! The fries were homemade and so was the Mac and cheese. We will definitely be back!
Not knowing where to start. I 'll keep this simple. Very unorganized. Ordered 1/2 slab ribs and 2 sides. Ribs came out on butcher paper on a platter which the server tries her best to slide off the platter and onto the table. Really not sure if these were baby backs or spares. Got like 5 bones total all different sizes. One about 2 long. No smoke flavor no rub taste. Just BBQ sauce on them. Sides were potato salad which was pretty good. And Mac and cheese. Not bad. Others got similar slide off platter paper meals. Pulled pork not bad. The oddest thing I think came when my son ask for more bbq sauce. The server brought him a squeeze bottle not quite half full and said to please go sparingly with the sauce. The cook needs it in the kitchen as we hardly have any left. The server was very good and kept drinks full. But I felt sorry for her being the face of the business to try to make this place seem like some kind of normal restaurant. There is a big smoker out front with stacked split wood. Guess it 's just for looks.
Even a one is too high for this. We can understand being short handed, the wait time was long. We ordered the Viking platter and a kids grilled cheese. The server said that they were out of ribs and would give us the three meat platter, he said it's cheaper. Ok. Another long wait and the food came out and mysteriously they found some ribs. First, the kids grilled cheese the bread was so overdone it was like a cracker and the cheese was so miniscule inside. The accompanying fries were so over seasoned, the salt was way too much. When I asked the server if this was their normal grilled cheese he pretty much shrugged me off. The meat platter with sides of fried okra, Cole slaw, and chicken bog. It tasted like it came from a big, TERRIBLE. Cole slaw tasted old and stale. The meat was bad, BBQ? Terrible. Never again. First night of our Myrtle Beach vacation and we spent 53 bucks on trash. Good thing we brought Ramen with us.
To start, the tables were dirty and the place wasn't clean. We almost left then and I wish I would've. We try to order and several things they were out of. We ordered and then didn't get the right food but we ate it because we didn't want to wait again. The bbq was not great and lacked substance. No smoke flavor to the meat at all. The bbq tasted like something you bought at the store. Sweet Baby Rays is better. We paid and left. Then a few hours later, the food didn't settle well. Let's just say it came out quicker than it went in and neither of us feel great. We are locals and this was the first and last time we will eat there.
Have been to other location before! This location was not as great as our first trip. Enjoyed the food and will return on later trips
