Bidrage med feedbackMy first review for a considerable time. This is a challenging place to find in the dark. High Devon hedges and most roadside sign posts defaced or missing their direction boards. Encountered tractors coming at us with lights blazing on the way home and quite difficult to reverse. Not a night time visit for the faint hearted or optically challenged driver. Lots of parking at the Inn but park your car facing outwards at top of car park for an unhindered get away. The bar was crammed, lively, noisy with happy patrons, a roaring log fire and contented dogs with snouts poking out from under tables towards the roaring log fire. This is clearly a very popular bar. We were not so impressed by the dining area an annex to the bar think big portakabin, very austere and lacking in character. Not a picture on the wall nor a fire to add any ambiance. The menu had sufficient choice for all tastes and the waiting staff were cheerful and efficient. Everything we ordered was enjoyable, so well done on the food but not so well done on the dining area. There are so many fine Inns in our area that offer a more convivial dining experience and we will be seeking them out to enjoy enhanced atmosphere and that log fire.
BACK IN JUNE I REVIEWED A MEAL WE HAD HEREReviewed June an hour for poor food... take away took precedenceWe had been recommended this pub/eatery and our expectations were high. However the landlord has recently given over the place to new management, my sister in law and her husband have frequented this place Many times in the past, and this was the first visit with the present incumbent.https went back today and we were all wary as our last experience left literally a bad taste in the mouth.Fast forward three years and the difference is amazing. The food and service is simply superb...I had the pork belly with black pudding mash and seasonal veg, it was heaven on a plate. Perfect , all of it,,,Liz had the tandoori chicken , it arrived and should have had an accompanying fanfare it looked out of this world and tasted just as good, Vicki and Derek had the Rump steak, and Vicki said it was the best steak she had had in years. starters were a non starter and sweet was desserted, we all left very much the happier and probably fatter....Thank you to all the staff at the Ashill Inn for a lovely meal and superb service, we will be back and Derek and liz are booked in for the weekend, and we wont leave another three years ...kepp up the good work
A group of eight of us went to the Ashill Inn to celebrate my birthday. It was our first time dining there and I wanted to try something new. We were all very impressed and I can confidently say it was the best pub meal I have ever had.
We eat fairly regularly in this area, but one place on a main road is always far too busy and another pub has become rather bad food wise and is only now good for ham egg and chips. Travelling in even further into the depths of countryside we tried for the first time the Ashill Inn and were very pleased indeed we did. Excellent food, well served by nice staff. With such a nice meal we went ‘overboard’ and treated ourselves to an eton mess, which was lovely but we did feel rather well fed after it! It won’t be long until we will be back
Big group of us went and I was so impressed with the amazing food and great presentation. The food was delicious and very good price for the size of the meals. The staff were friendly and the pub was nice with a garden and small bar. And there’s a carpark! Will definitely visit again!
