The lunch item I ordered was undercooked, and since the restaurant was empty, I was surprised by the quality. I wouldn't choose to return.
I had high hopes for an early dinner with good food, a beautiful view and great service. Unfortunately, it didn't turn out that way. Instead, we had overpriced so-so food (the crispy chicken sandwich was seasoned well but hung out in the fryer way too long) although admittedly the french-fries and chocolate cookie dessert were satisfying; obnoxiously loud and crude diners next to us (we had to request to be seated away from them but that still didn't help) and incessant flies buzzing around us. Service could have been better. It was also surprising to find that just on the other side of the patio opening near the table was the gym; the view of the beautiful golf-course contrasted with people running on a treadmill and taking water breaks just on the other side of the wall was less than desirable. We've dined here several times over the years and had a wonderful experience, but it was disappointing to see that the ambiance, service and quality of food has gone so far downhill. I won't be back anytime soon. I toggled between rating this 1-2 stars, but settled on 2 thinking that perhaps the flies and group of 10 obnoxiously loud golfers weren't the status quo at the restaurant. I just expected much, much more from a place like the Fairmont Grand DelMar.
The food was just okay, as was the service. I wouldn't go back.
The view of the golf course is stunning, but the food is even better. After ordering wine, and guac and chips, our waiter (the restaurant manager) suggested the shrimp tacos. OMG! I could eat those every day: large, grilled and perfectly seasoned.
