Marugame Udon - Makati

This is the best rice I've ever had—cooked to perfection! Just be ready for a lengthy wait to place your order; I stood in line for more than 40 minutes during my last visit. Despite the wait, the quality and value of the food make it worthwhile. Everything on the menu is delicious, especially the nigiri!

I truly admire how swiftly they prepare food to order. The udon I had featured tender, sukiyaki-flavored meat in a delectable sweet-savory broth, topped with a perfectly poached egg. My kids thoroughly enjoyed the katsu curry and savored every bite. The portion sizes are quite generous, and I especially appreciate the condiment bar and tempura station that allow you to enhance your meal. The shrimp tempura and sweet potato battered vegetables complemented the udon soup beautifully. Overall, the prices are quite reasonable for high-quality Japanese soup and rice dishes.

Firstly, the wait time in line was excessive. We spent around 30 minutes waiting, even though the line wasn’t particularly long. Typically, customers receive a number after ordering, and it can take a while for the food to arrive. Secondly, I noticed that there were a lot of staff members present, yet the service was lacking. Two employees were flirting with one another, one staff member spent 10 minutes chopping a single onion, while others just stood around doing nothing. After waiting in line for 30 minutes, we were finally seated, but then we had to wait an additional 10 minutes for our food. My family’s orders came out relatively quickly, but I ended up waiting for 20 minutes for the same dish that my dad ordered. It’s worth mentioning that the restaurant was not busy, especially since it was after lunch hour on a holiday in Makati. As my family was nearly finished with their meals, I was still waiting for mine. My dad, who is a senior citizen, took my number and approached the staff to inquire about my order. Unfortunately, they ignored him. A male server literally walked right past him without acknowledging his presence. It wasn’t until about four minutes later that a female staff member finally noticed and assisted him. Overall, this was the most frustrating experience I've ever had at Marugame Udon.
