Bidrage med feedbackDuring our long weekend stay in Macon, I searched for the best dining options in the area and Dovetail caught my attention. We had an incredible meal there! The staff was not only friendly but also very knowledgeable. Our server excelled in offering great recommendations. I suggest making a reservation in advance; we were fortunate to secure a same-day booking, but those without reservations faced a wait of a couple of hours. If you're in Macon, I highly recommend Dovetail. We'll definitely return if we visit Macon again!
For the main course, I highly recommend the shrimp and grits. Living near the Gulf of Mexico, I've had my fair share of fried shrimp, but this was the best I've ever tasted! I was initially hesitant about the grits since I'm not usually a fan, but they were rich and paired perfectly with the shrimp and roasted corn relish. My husband ordered the burger and fries, which he enjoyed, while my brother-in-law opted for the fried quail, which he found delicious—especially with the flavorful local hot sauce. My sister-in-law ordered the sea bass but was disappointed, finding part of it undercooked. Additionally, the menu mentioned asparagus tips, but she was unhappy to receive them fried; she expected lighter side options with her fish dish. When it came to dessert, we tried the fudge brownie à la mode, cracked pie, and sweet potato crème brûlée. The brownie was incredibly rich, and the ice cream was delightful! The cracked pie was a standout, served with caramel ice cream—something I don't usually like, but this was exceptional (I’d love to get the recipe!). The sweet potato dessert was a bit odd, featuring cold filling topped with roasted marshmallows. If the filling had been warm, I think it would have really elevated the dish. Overall, I would happily return whenever I'm back in Texas. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was wonderful, and the service was quite good!
I only visit Dovetail once a year, but it remains my favorite restaurant in Macon. I've never been disappointed by anything I've ordered. Last night was no different; I started with the Georgia Fresh Salad, which never fails to impress. Please don’t ever take it off the menu! For my main courses, I had the Oxtail Shepherd's Pie followed by the Rabbit Fricassée with risotto. Both dishes were outstanding! I appreciate the great bourbon selection, the decor, and the ambiance, but what stands out the most is the staff. They treat me like a long-time friend—quick, friendly, and efficient. As long as Dovetail is around, I will be sure to dine there whenever I'm in Macon.
I'm a tough critic, but last night's meal at Dovetail would have been a stand out in any city large or small. Really good meal. The cheese plate was anything but ordinary. The veggie plate roasted cauliflower, butter braised cabbage, butter beans, butternut squash slaw, kale chips and cornbread fantastic. Chocolate bark for dessert. Daryl says the blackened catfish was also very good. Gold star.
Enjoyed Sunday brunch and our first visit to Dovetail today and must say my hubby and I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it, from the **** Mary flight, to the basket of biscuits, steak and eggs, chicken benedict and cracked pie with salted caramel ice cream. Well worth the hour and a half drive and we'll definitely be back!
