La Poolish - Loches

The only thing worse than receiving a bad pastry is receiving one you did not order. I was very disappointed at this place. I stopped in on the way to Cite Royale for a breakfast snack and back-pack stuffer. I eyed a piece of chocolate cake that looked simple but indulgent. Ten minutes later when I sat down to open my heavily wrapped and taped shut package, I found a chocolate tartlette that was not even close to where the cake I ordered was in the display case. I did not want to go back down the hill to the boulangerie so I ate it. It was terrible, c’etait terrible! I have to presume that the patisserie does not sample its creations. The crème did not even taste like chocolate, it was just filling of some sort. Cold goop, no flavor whatsoever. The tartlette shell must have come from a factory. I even went back to the place to complain, but the lady there pretends to not understand foreigner French and so on… There are a couple of other patisseries 100 meters away from this place, so keep walking if you are going by.

Totally disagree with the previous comment from an English source. We are English, and resident not far from Loches. We are regulars at the Poolish, and we find the staff to be very welcoming, the little café clean, and all the produce, either in the Boulangerie or the patisserie, excellent.

Dirty table, service with a snarl, mediocre pastries. Clean toilets! They could certainly do better - only place open on a Sunday afternoon.

We were here on a very busy day and our party of ten waited an hour (which is exactly how long they said it would be).

Came here for breakfast on a Sunday morning to watch the Rams and Vikings football game with my boyfriend and some friends.
