Shipley Do-nuts - Hoover

Amazing variety of freshly made donuts! During our 3-day stay in Birmingham, we visited Shipley's every morning for breakfast. It's just that good! The coffee is also exceptional. We even bought a dozen to take with us on our journey back home.

I moved from Houston, Texas, where Shipley Do-Nuts is very popular: there is one in every corner? it has been my favorite doughnut place! I was super excited to find it here in Hoover. The quality of the food is as good as it is in Texas, but their schedule is not. They were closed the fist time I went (I learned that they don?t open on Mondays) and the second time I got there at 2:01pm, and they were closing ???? (they close at 2:00). Very disappointing when you wish to have fresh doughnuts with a cup of coffee in the afternoon. Both times I ended up going to Krispy Kreme (around the corner).

When the pandemic hit, I was told my favorite breakfast in Birmingham Shipley's Sausage, Cheese and Jalapeno Kolache was going to be a little different because of disruptions in the pork processing business. Two and a half years later, they are still using what tastes like a cheap hot dog and calling it Sausage. I keep going by every month hoping they will change back, but no such luck. I'm not a donut person, so I'm still looking for a new favorite breakfast in Birmingham.

The donuts were average at best. I had higher expectations based on the reviews. The coffee was the worst I've ever had, and I'm not usually picky about coffee. It seemed like it had been sitting for hours since we arrived later in the day. I used the restroom and was confronted when I came out, being told it wasn't for public use and not to use it again. Needless to say, I won't be returning.

I always love Shipley 's . Today was different. I don 't know why the gentleman waiting on me seemed to be offended to have me in his store. I will not give them another chance.
