Cherry-o To Go - Hampton

I couldn't go home for the holidays during the peak of COVID, and Ms. Cherry ensured I had a home-cooked Christmas dinner. I ordered a small serving of dressing, but she generously gave me a large portion instead. That gesture truly touched me. Thank you so much for bringing comfort during such a challenging time!

The food lacked flavor, and the service was quite slow. My order was mixed up, and they forgot one of the meals, which extended the already 1.5-hour wait to a frustrating 3 hours. I definitely won't be coming back.

Edit: I wrote my original review back in early 2022 after dining here consistently for more than six months. Now, in early 2023, I want to emphasize that this is still the best soul food restaurant on this side of the water. I’d even argue it's the best in all of Hampton Roads, though there are still a few soul food places I haven't tried on the other side.

The food is absolutely delicious!! This is a strictly to go restaurant so please note my review is based solely on the food and service. When I called to place my order, the young lady told me before I ordered it would be an hour wait. I really appreciated that so I could plan accordingly. After taking my order, she gave me my total, order number, and asked for the color and make of my vehicle. When I arrived, a young lady came out to my car (I may have waited a minute) and I told her my order number and paid. She told me she would bring my order out once it was finished. I saw a sign for online ordering so I asked the young lady, and she said to add ~15 20 minutes to the time quoted online for orders for processing times. I waited approximately 5 minutes and she brought out my order. Thought my food was wrapped up very well, I could smell the food and felt the steam from the bag!!This food was just amazing!!! The candied yams were the star of the meal with the baked macaroni and cheese coming in a close second. The yams tasted like the filing of a sweet potato pie oh my!! They give you this small piece of cornbread, but you honestly don't need more than that. The collards were decent; next time I'll try the cabbage. The catfish was good, but I try another meat, perhaps the wings. I split the food into two meals because they give you great portions.The food is so worth the wait!!!

This food is freaking awesome!!!! Im so sorry that the Norfolk location closed. I will have to make my way on the other side VERY soon!
