A&w - Dexter

SUMMARY: When visiting Dexter, you must ALWAYS go to A&W. I love the drive in carside service. I believe the food is less of an everyday restaurant and more of a treat, but Dexter residents would definitely argue otherwise. I have a favorite on the menu that I get every time. ROOT BEER: If you don 't get a huge, heavy mug of root beer you should be slapped silly. It 's made on site. Don 't try to steal the mug either. The slaps will NOT be silly. I always get a black cow (a blended float because it is easier to drink in the car. ATMOSPHERE: I have been going here for 30 years... since I could drive. I love the drive in experience. Carside service is part of the charm and a big reason to come here. My dog loves people watching and enjoying the aromas. SERVICE: When it 's busy it 's BUSY. Sometimes there 's no parking spots. There 's a place to park if you 're towing a boat. The service is quick no matter what time it is. All service is carside there 's no walk up or take out counter/window. FOOD: Again, if you don 't get a root beer made on site you are crazy. The retro menu is pretty much exceptionally greasy fast food. I 've been told most people get coney dogs. It hasn 't changed during my lifetime. If you want something 'healthy ' you won 't find it here. The kids menu is perfect. I only give the food because I can 't disrupt history. I 've been to non drive in A&W restaurants and they have all been horrible. Don 't bother. If you 're not familiar with Dexter, use a map. You can 't really see it from the main road unless you 're looking for it. It 's next to the little 1 lane railroad bridge. I 'm not getting compensation for writing this. (Although I 'd never turn down some free black cows! I was eating my leftovers and there 's nothing on TV so just had to say something.

Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon and they were busy, the food was quick and fresh!

Excellent little place to stop on the edge of town. I would place it into the category of Route 66 tradition. Just a fun place to visit. The staff is always amazing and they are quick with service. The food is always hot and delicious. Chilling strips are outstanding! If you want the traditional burger, it’s an excellent selection. Even a coney dog, fries and onion rings are a great addition. We travel with our dogs and we were very happy with the burger for the dogs. Very reasonable on the pricing. Of course enjoy a cool A W Root beer.

Best A&W Root Beer stand I’ve been too. Great service and seating area. Go see for yourself and enjoy!

Such a nostalgic place, I love drinking a big ol float out of a real glass mug. Carside service is fun.
