Old Forge Cafe

Glad to see some establishments are able to offer a tasty fish and chip supper for under a tenner. Roughly 7 quid for large cod chips and curry. Sadly it is 300 miles away from where I live but I'd be chuffed it it was my local chippy

Have tried many cafes and chippies across Cornwall on my search for 10/10 but have never found better than a 7/10. So tried here about a month ago and blown away by it so much that we went again a couple of nights ago. Even though it is a 25 minute drive away it’s more than worth it. The chips are perfect, the fish was perfect and the service and atmosphere was great. Well priced as well as pretty big portions and this is coming from someone with a big appetite. have found my perfect fish and chips so will be visiting here at least once a month now.

Visited following a day at the Eden Project its only a 5 minute drive from there and after reading the reviews on TA. Good old fashioned chippy, we arrived just after 6pm on a Friday and they were virtually queuing out of the door. We ate in and ordered 2x fish chips mushy peas and 1 chicken chips beans. No kiddy portions so we asked for an empty plate for my 7 year old who doesn't have a massive appetite and we shared ours with her. Plenty of food for 4 of us from the 3 portions and 13 year old couldn't finish all his chips (never happens)! Piping hot straight out of the fryer, the batter on the fish was delicious and very crispy, the chips soaked up the salt and vinegar in just the right way. Very friendly and accommodating staff and 3x large meals plus drinks for under £25. Definitely recommend.

I've been visiting the Old Forge Cafe, as a holidaymaker, for over 20 years and have never had a bad meal. Since the girls have been running the business it's got even better. I now live locally and continue to get my fish and chips here. Yes, the opening times are less generous than where I moved from, I've been used to local fish and chip shops being open 6 days a week until 11pm, but the Old Forge opening times are better than many of the other local chip shops and are as advertised. The portions ensure I've never gone hungry, again not something that can be said for others in the area, and the cheerful welcome always makes me smile. As soon as you enter you are asked for your order and by the time you get to the counter it's usually cooked. The only negative is that the Old Forge is so popular that the queue can, at times, be quite long. The wait is well worth it. Whether I visit for a single portion of chips or the full fish, chips and mushy peas for several of us, I always feel valued.

Cracking fish and chips. Huge portions and friendly staff. Perfect combo. Will definatly be going back
