Shearwater Restaurant - Coffs Harbour

Nine of us, all visitors from Sydney, went to dinner at the Shearwater Restaurant, on the recommendation of one couple who had been there before. And what a good recommendation it was! We probably needed to arrive in daylight to do justice to the excellent location, but the food was soooo good that it didn't matter. I had the best roast duck I have ever eaten, served on a delicious mushroom risotto with the flavour balanced by roasted beetroot -- really, one could not ask for better. Others tried the crispy-skinned salmon, the gnocchi, the lamb cutlets, the steak, and the pork belly: without exception, all I heard was praise. Then came the sinfully delightful sticky date pudding with lashings of butterscotch sauce and ice cream. Enough said!!

Every time I come to Coffs Harbour I would have lunch here. The staff is always friendly and attentive, and the food is always of excellent quality, and this time was no exception. I had a duck leg on a bed of mushroom risotto, which was done to perfection, though the choices of pasta and risotto have declined since my last visit, I would still recommend this highly - especially for its beautiful location on the river.

I've been to this restaurant twice in the past few months, the location is beautiful, staff are lovely and the service is great! Unfortunately the food is awful! We went for dinner had the pork and the duck, the flavour was terrible we left after a few bites and ended up and at McDonald's. Because the location is so nice we went back for breakfast a few months later and again left after a couple bites, the eggs benedict had pesto on the toast which didn't say so on the menu and the hollondaise was curdled it was all just awful!!!

We visited last weekend and were VERY impressed by the Shearwater!There was a very good breakfast menu with $12 brekky available (plus extras for an additional cost) - and we all really enjoyed our choices (mine was the bacon and egg roll with avo and couldn't fault it).The staff were so friendly and welcoming! I was super impressed by the person that served us, she may have been the Manager/Owner (short, with light/blonde hair) - but either way, she was tremendous and couldn't have been more helpful.The coffee was also beautiful - and the location is as good as you will find.I'd go back without hesitation. Thank you again!

We chose this restaurant for a special occasion and loved the setting looking out over Coffs Creek. The service was friendly but we found the menu a little limited and were disappointed after we ordered to see other diners offered a specials menu with appealing options. Our meals came in good time but the beef brisket lacked flavour. Our desserts of sticky date pudding were nice. Our overall was impression was positive but we felt that the restaurant could be better with a bit of thought and effort.
