Baan Latsamy Thai Restaurant - Canberra

Friends and I turned to this restaurant as a second choice when our favourite restaurant in the area was closed for holidays.

Great Thai food. All of our entrees and mains were delicious. Menu has a decent selection of dishes and the prices are reasonable. They're not as cheap as some Thai restaurants, but still fairly affordable.

Truly Fabulous. A couple of times a year I end up in Canberra for business - luckily my bestie now lives there, so I get to have someone to keep me company at dinner. My trip this week had me staying at Rydges Capital Hill, so Manuka was a quick 10 minute walk away. I lived in Canberra a lifetime ago and Manuka has always been a bustling little spot with a few interesting restaurants - for my first visit back to Manuka in over a decade, we decided upon Baan Latsamy for dinner. Usually I read reviews and decide from there, but this time round it was just a last minute decision and a really great one at that. Firstly on a Monday night the place was rather quiet, about 3-4 other tables there. The atmosphere is really lovely and the service was wonderful - friendly, warm and just delightful. Then there was the good - truly good. In recent years I've gone off thai a little here in Australia - perhaps I've now spent too much time in Thailand eating the real deal and just don't find the stuff here quite so good, a bit westernised - however occasionally I stumble across a thai place that makes me realise that you CAN find good thai, you just have to really look. Baan Latsamy is one of those places. Anyway the food - we shared the loatian spring rolls to start - amazing! These are your typical viet style fresh rice paper rolls but then deep fried - they would have to be one of the most delicious things I've had in a very long time. A very generous serve with four huge rolls - just wow. For main we shared the red duck curry with lychees (you can't go past duck in a curry ever as far as I'm concerned) and this one was done very well, with just the right amount of kick to the curry and plenty of plump lychees to enjoy. We also shared the chicken and prawn thai salad - this is not something I would normally order, but my dining bestie was keen - thank goodness she insisted. This was ****** fabulous - lots of chicken, lots of prawns, lots of salad ... it was fantastic. When we originally ordered we questioned if we needed and entree and two dishes to share, but decided that she could take home the leftovers - if she was planning to have them for lunch the next day, she would have starved - there was minimal leftovers. So in all a sublime dinner and one which I thoroughly enjoyed. Will I be back - you bet I will.

As a group of five we choose the 1st Banquet which was $29 per head. The entrée followed by the main courses arrived in good time without feeling that you were being rushed. All the dishes in the banquet were enjoyed. Goof fresh food at a reasonable price, whilst catching up with friends and family. The restaurant is easy to locate in the suburb of Manuka,
