Bidrage med feedbackI stopped in the other evening for dinner as an out of town guest. Ambiance was mixed as the vigorous liveliness in the hibachi grill was in full swing with a couple birthdays. The smell was delightful. I was a singleton so I was seated at a table which had a nice white linen table cloth underneath the white paper. I surveyed the menu intending to try their Thai curry, but dinner special interested me as it came with a soup, salad and entree. The entree that really caught my eye was the Phoenix Shrimp, which were shrimp stuffed with crab meat. I also ordered a couple pieces of salmon sushi. I was still feeling hot from being outside all day so I ordered an iced tea with lemon. The salad and soup came out fairly quickly with my iced tea. The soup was a miso type soup with a little spice, a slice of mushroom and what I think was a piece of nori. It was quite warm and tasty. The salad was a typical iceberg lettuce salad you would get at a Japanese steak house with a miso dressing. That was also tasty and hot the spot. Next came the sushi and it looked really nice, but the salmon was practically tasteless even without any ginger root or wasabi (which was quite fresh and hot! . I was really disappointed in lack of good salmon flavor in the sushi. My entree came out and presentation as plated was both a little stark yet extremely pleasing to the eye. The Phoenix Shrimp was plated by itself and the steamed white rice was served separately in a small bowl. As you can see from the photo it was a very interesting looking dish! It was quite tasty and pleasing. I suspect the crab meat was actually pollack made into imitation crab meat, but with the sweet peanut sauce it was very flavorful. One thing on the peanut sauce, apparently it is prepared fresh by the chef and had granulated sugar in it which not only imparted some sweetness, but also a bit of crunchy texture to each bite. I really enjoyed this dish as it was quite different from anything else I had ever tried. My server asked about dessert and I just had to try the tempura Oreos and that was a smash. I had not eaten any of those in over a decade and these did not disappoint! The tempura batter was light and the whole thing was not greasy and the copious amount of whipped cream with chocolate sauce drizzled across it and colorful sprinkles are it very festive. Overall, it was a pleasant meal in a nice place with excellent service. The meal price was moderate and I would definitely come again with great confidence of having an enjoyable meal experience. I think I would pass on the salmon sushi. It certainly seemed fresh as the slices of fish seemed fresh enough, it just lacked flavor.
While I am always happy with the food, the server decided to misread my tip amount and padded it. As such, the total I signed for was not what was charged against my debit card. From what I understand, if there's a discrepancy in what the tip was, you go by the bottom line...the total amount as written by the customer. Shame on you, John. I was a regular going at least once or twice a week and I haven't been back for at least a month now because of it. I had gone during happy hour so the prices were reduced, and the five dollar tip I left was 25% at least of what the bill was. He chose to see my five as an eight, completely ignoring the bottom line total. At any rate, the food is great. But I will probably never go back. If I do go back, I will request to have John and I will not give him a tip. That's probably the only way I'll everfeel good about going back. I know three dollars seems petty but it's really just the principle of the thing It's a sign of poor character to do something like that when you think you can get away with it. I'm not sure if this is something he does on the regular or if this was just a one off, but no matter what he should've just charged what I signed for .
Kume is great! I've come here many times, and have ordered takeout too. Hibachi is great when you bring friends and/or family. The food and service is fantastic! I love it here. I'm a big sushi fan, sushi hand rolls are my fav, and they do it well! Fresh fish always!
I took my Grandson as a birthday gift. I had never been, but we were both very happy that we finally went. The ambiance is lovely, customer service and the wait staff were friendly and attentive, and the food was presented beautifully and tasted great. I have quite a high intolerance for spicy food (even when it probably isn't spicy to anyone else) and had to send my entree back. The manager came over and was very understanding and replaced my meal immediately, without any hassle. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys Asian food. Their Hibachis looked like fun!
Ordered the hibachi chicken and shrimp. Fairly simple dish for any Japanese steak house. Shrimp was undercooked to the point of someone will get sick eating here seafood undercooked is very bad idea. The vegetables were raw as in not cooked at all just sauce dumped on them. When this was brought up to the waitress she offered to have the chef put it back on the grill. This is a major health code violation for a reason surprise it hasn't been reported before now. The drive to Jackson or Kalamazoo will save you an ER visit from undercooked food seafood in particular.
