Cattleman's Cafe - Amarillo

I had the chicken fried steak, which is made in-house. I would definitely order it again—the gravy was outstanding. I swapped the potatoes for beans. I gave this place a 5-star rating because the 4.1 average feels off; the Route 66 history vibes are truly noticeable. I can’t wait to come back for breakfast, especially since they serve it 24 hours!

This place felt a bit questionable. It's the diner section of a dive bar located in a rough part of town. I chose a seat where I could keep an eye on my car and noticed several bullet holes in the front windows. The interior appeared reasonably clean, but the tables were sticky, and some of the booths had torn upholstery. The waitress was friendly, but she forgot to bring a fork with my meal.

The blonde lady at the counter mentioned that she has been working there for over 40 years, but her demeanor was quite rude. The food was lukewarm, and there were a few flies, which was tolerable. However, I was very put off by the dead roaches we noticed in the corner. By that point, we were already eating, and it made me feel nauseous. I would never return to this place. It turned out to be a nightmare for our family vacation.

A very enjoyable experience. Feels like America I knew growing up good service and tasty food. Also smoking is allowed!

Food is fantastic. Right on Route 66 and definitely a spot we would return to. We ordered the Green Chile Swiss Burger and the Chicken Fried steak with mashed potatoes. Do not pass this place up!
