Yú Wū Shí Táng Shèng Pǔ

It's about a 15-minute drive to the town of Katsuura, located in the mountains along the way from Tokyo. We arrived around 11:30 and the parking lot was quite full. It seems they procure fresh fish from the fishing port daily, so the menu changes depending on the day’s catch. The fish dishes were all really thick and delicious without any fishy taste! The fried horse mackerel was also thick and crispy, super tasty. We ordered the half bowl of seared fish and tantan, and they served the tantan sauce and egg yolk separately. We started with soy sauce and wasabi, and then switched to tantan sauce and egg yolk for the second half – it was incredibly delicious! The only thing that was a bit lacking was the dried mackerel – it was thick and hot, but the flavor was not quite there. Perhaps it depends on the day. The service was also very friendly, and it’s a restaurant we would like to visit again!

During my visit to Katsuura, I visited this restaurant. It had a feel of a Western-style restaurant with seafood bowls. When I looked for a seafood lunch around Katsuura's fishing port, everywhere seemed to be around 2500 yen, but here I was able to eat for around 1500 yen. I arrived on a Saturday just over 20 minutes after the restaurant opened, and already about 5 cars were parked. I was able to be seated without waiting, but most of the customers were waiting for their food to be served. However, I didn't have to wait long from ordering to receiving my meal. I think it's a restaurant with decent turnover. The main menu didn't give the feeling of freshly caught, local fish, but in terms of cost performance, I was satisfied.

Even though it's only 10km to the sea, there's a restaurant in Katsuura that specializes in seafood bowls. If you're not paying attention, you might miss it. Today's seafood bowl with fresh fish. The half portion of No.2 seared seafood bowl and No.3 tantan seafood bowl is quite good. The egg yolk is also a nice topping, and the tantan sauce is mellow. Fully satisfied, when you come out, you'll still be surprised that you're in the mountains.
