There is a parking lot right in front of the temple. The street lined with souvenir shops (selling temple bell manju) leads to the temple grounds. The restaurant Ancin offers meals as well. Upon climbing a staircase with some height, you will be greeted by a gate with statues of Nio guardians. Passing through the gate, you will see the remains of the temple bell on the right, and Kiyohime mound (with trees planted) on the left. In front, you can see the temple's main hall. In spring, the weeping cherry blossoms are beautiful. In summer, the sound of cicadas fills the air. There is also a puzzle-solving signboard at the Dojoji Temple, which children can enjoy. With its old-fashioned charm, you can't help but be transported back to ancient times...truly a place of elegance.

Visited around noon on March 27th. There were many cherry blossom viewers. I wish I had brought a bento... The cherry blossoms were in full bloom and the weather was lovely, making it a very pleasant experience. You can buy temple bell manju and also have lunch downstairs. However, finding an available parking space can be quite a challenge.

Doujouji Temple, famous for its performances and kabuki, was founded in 701. It is the oldest and most prestigious temple in Wakayama. In celebration of the 700th anniversary of Manjumaru's birth, visitors can see the secret Buddha statue of Thousand-armed Avalokiteshvara, which is usually only displayed once every 33 years, as well as a bell that was transferred from Myomanji Temple in Kyoto. In the Daibouden Hall, you can admire national treasures such as the ninth-century statues of Thousand-armed Avalokiteshvara, Nikko Bodhisattva, and Gekko Bodhisattva, as well as over 20 other precious Buddhist statues. It feels like walking through a museum. There is also a fun storytelling session about the history for interested visitors. I had the opportunity to visit and I am grateful for the experience. 安珍清姫伝説で有名な古刹です。参道は短く質素でお土産者屋さんも少なく、人も多いわけではないので、いい意味でのんびりと拝観できます。 駐車場代は普通車で500円だったかな。二輪は150円でした。駐車場のおばあちゃんからは、来ていただいてありがとうとの言葉をかけられ、嬉しかったです。

安珍清姫の伝説にまつわるお寺。お坊さんの説法がとても聞きやすく、わかりやすく、楽しい時間になるのでわ？ 石段を降りた土産物店で釣鐘饅頭が私の必須項目です。 日持ちは短いのですが、ふんわりとしていてとてもオススメです。
